DEL VIS (HEC)

Illustrative Example:
A 39 sec/qt marsh funnel viscosity is desired in a Sodium chloride water.  Under the Sodium Chloride column, move down to the number 39 (or number closest matching the viscosity desired) and then move your attention to the left column.  Read the number of 5 gallon pails of Del Vis needed to viscosify the water for every 100 barrels.

Rule of Thumb:  For Fresh Water or Sodium Chloride
  • Desired Viscosity + 60 - 1 to 1 1/2 pails
  • Desired Viscosity + 100 -2 pails

LOST CIRCULATION PILL:  (Example using 20 bbl pill)

Severe Losses:
  • Mix 3 gallons of Del Vis in base water.
  • Mix 24 bags of Del Fiber Medium (30 ppb) and 12 bags of Del Fiber Fine (15 ppb).
  • Mix Del Vis as needed to increase the viscosity as desired.
Seepage Losses:
  • Mix 3 gallons of Del Vis in base water.
  • Mix 16 bags of Del Fiber Fine (20 ppb).
  • Mix Del Vis as needed to increase the viscosity as desired.
Contingencies:
  • A defoamer may be needed since both brines and polymers have a tendency to foam.
  • Lower the viscosity with the base water.  Increase the viscosity by slowly adding more Del Vis.
  • If Caustic Soda is used start with 1/4 ppb and do not exceed 1 ppb total.
